The video tutorial based on this ZOOM class will be posted a couple of days after the workshop.

In this workshop you will be introduced to the relaxin and meditative watercolour painting techniques Sumi E.

SUMI-E is the Japanese word for Black Ink Painting. East Asian Painting and writing developed together in ancient China using the same materials —brush and ink on paper.

You will learn how to enjoy the beauty of each individual stroke of the brush.
You will learn how to control your breathing and set up your mood to create a beautiful painting that you will be proud of.

No previous experience required.
For all ages and for all skills levels

You will take a peak on what we are going to study in the upcoming course “Sumi-e”

The six week course starts October 12th, 2022.

Student’s work

Materials that you need for this workshop:

Printer paper, a couple dozen sheets or more per workshop

Drawing or watercolour paper, one sheet per workshop, any quality

Calligraphy brushes. You can use your watercolour round brushes any quality, the brush must have a pointy tip (when the brush is wet - the hair should create a sharp tip) - one big and one small.

Ink or watercolour paints any quality (dry, in tubes, in pans, liquid)
any dark colour (Payne’s Grey) and any blue colour (Ultramarine)

White gouache or White COPIC or White Gelly Roll pen, 0.8 

Paper weights

Paper towels

Jar with water

Palette or ceramic plate or two ramekins

Soft fabric for placing under the paper, size is slightly larger than your paper sheets.  Ideally to use Chinese Calligraphy Drawing Felt Mat, but kitchen towel, old pillow case or piece of felt will work fine also.
