Where The Season Hesitates
From the In-between series

The first snow never announces itself loudly. It arrives like a thought you didn’t know you were ready to have.

The suburb looks familiar, yet altered, trees reduced to gestures, houses withdrawing into themselves, the road dark and damp, carrying the memory of footsteps and tires that have already passed.

This is the day when autumn loosens its hold. Leaves no longer resist the ground. The air sharpens, but gently, as if asking permission.

Nothing is finished here. The snow has not learned the shape of the land yet. The earth has not decided how much it will surrender.

And so everything waits. In this quiet, the ordinary becomes tender: a fence line dissolves, a yard turns inward, and the distance feels both vast and intimate.

It is not yet winter, but the promise of it has already changed the way the world breathes.
