Video tutorial for all levels of watercolour skill.

In this tutorial you will paint a sunrise scene; where the sun rising over misty rural fields, with trees casting long shadows in the fog.

The tutorial contains an edited video describing the painting process including paper preparation and a pencil sketch. You will learn how to create a fast watercolour painting in Ala Prima style.

Materials that I am going to use during the workshop:

This list is only for your information, there is no need to get exactly what I am using:

Watercolour paper, :

  • Arches watercolour paper, cotton, cold press or rough, 300 gm2

Watercolour brushes;

- Hake brush for paper preparation, 65 mm (you can use any flat brush)

- Round 13 mm Paul Rubens;

- Flat synthetic brush 3/4  (Escoda) 

Calligraphy brush, 5 mm

Plexiglass board (any plastic board that the wet paper will stick to); You can use any smooth surface board big enough to place your paper on it; glass, mirror, flat baking sheet.

Watercolour palette with a large surface for mixing pigments. Alternatively, you can use a white ceramic plate. 

A Pencil  2B 

Two large jars for water;

Paper towels;

Hair dryer
